Raj,

I am a frequent visitor of India and even with that a change that I saw in human behavior and spirituality this time was really shocking to the extent I got depressed at first. However, instead of getting depressed further, I decided to meet many people with a good pulse in the society. People who continues to think about building a bridge to social problems through academic institutions, social enterprises, and charitable foundations. I have yet to meet Manav Sadhana/Charity Focus group who aligns with a completely selfless giving.

I get the same feeling probably worst from our dot com time. I am worried about their shameless copying of western models - to the extent that unlike it took us in west many years to find results of fast food growth --- here results are fast evident by massive growth of hospital, overall education for health in urban rich is still very poor and crazy attitude towards box based education system is not good.

There are some who thinks that building infrastructure without input from the people will bring disastrous result or some who think that how can you think of even doing social development without resolving cancer from the system. I think that this is one of the view and one who is using social activism for that I applaud them. However, I feel that social development and services are also another component to bridge social improvements in addition to social activism. We need people from all three side to bridge this gap.

That said all the good people that I meet are fairly committed, confident and relatively young. I see that they are building a bridges to broken promises and social issues. They are in a real minority but good enough to make a change and for a long haul.

Is "development" and "progress" for the minority (upper 10-20% of society) coming at the expense of extensive environmental degradation? At the expense of further widening the gap between the rich and the poor? At the expense of losing VALUES of community, spirituality, and family... and replacing them with greed, consumerism, and imitation?
How can we work with those that do not have basic necessities of life... to not only provide them with those necessities, but to build their human spirit?
Is India creating its own path, or is it just following the path of Western development that has SHOWN its instability?
The "progressive" India I see still measures its success by comparing itself to the West... still is stuck in the colonial "inferiority complex" mode.
What do you think?

YES - On the other hand, men and women who develop and manifest the power of the human spirit, will have the wisdom, calmness, inner strength, and unconditional love for all – the attributes that are needed to transform society.

I was very inspired by INSPIRE's presentation last year at the gala. Would love to explore the opportunity for a summer internship for/with my son next summer. He is a freshman and 14, right now. Who can i talk to? My cell is 510 300 7010 in Fremont, CA.
Thanks.

Thank you for sharing your experience and inspiring others. Hope to see more and more of the same.
At any point of time if there is any help needed it would be my pleasure to contribute.
